Nissan offers advance technology in cross-industry application

- Opportunities in heavy machinery, veterinary sciences and housing development -

TOKYO, August 4, 2008 - Nissan Motor Co.,Ltd. research and development has led to several innovations now being evaluated for use outside of the auto industry. The Nissan original technologies are licensed assets for the company, managed by a dedicated Intellectual Property (IP) department. The IP department focuses to expand and diversify the application of Nissan technologies that can offer specific benefits and advancements to various other industries.

The prospective technologies for cross-industry application include:

Around View Monitor (AVM)
The Around View Monitor system synthesizes a bird's-eye view image of the vehicle and its surroundings using four ultra-wide angle high resolution cameras mounted on the front, sides and rear of the vehicle, to assist the driver to maneuver easily into a parking space. The AVM is currently commercialized in Nissan and Infiniti products.

The AVM is attracting interest from operators of large industrial vehicles such as those found at construction sites and mining sites Adoption of the AVM affords the driver a view of the surrounding environment that can contribute to improved maneuverability and safety.

Far Infrared Image Sensor
The Far Infrared Image Sensor is capable of up to 1,000 to 10,000 pixels image enhancement, compared to conventional infrared devices*. The hi-resolution sensor can be applied to veterinary sciences, to monitor the health of animals, through an infrared thermal-mapping process. This technology is being evaluated as a cost effective solution by livestock agriculture industry.

Grape Seed Polyphenol Filter
Nissan has developed a high-performance filter utilizing the anti-allergenic properties of natural grape seed polyphenol, which is more efficient in eliminating allergens that lead to pollen allergies. It is already fitted to the Cube, Tiida and Teana models.

The grape seed polyphenol filters are being evaluated for air-ventilation systems for housing and commercial office applications.

*: Infrared sensors are usually employed in motion sensors or night-vision equipment.
