RICKMANSWORTH, Hertfordshire UK : October 3, 2008 - Nissan’s just-launched seven-seater Qashqai+2 has been named MPV of the Year in the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) Scottish Car of the Year Awards 2008, adding to the Diesel Car of the Year accolade picked up last year by the original Qashqai.

It’s a further endorsement of Nissan’s bold decision to break the family car mould by creating a compact crossover that blends the best elements of family hatchback, MPV and SUV. As the first family crossover, Qashqai+2 opens up the concept to even more customers.

Speaking at the award ceremony held on Friday night (31 October), Bill Caven, president of the ASMW said that the Qashqai range has been one of the real success stories within the automotive industry in recent times: “Demand has never been greater and it is easy to understand why it is proving so popular. Not only is it a superb all-round performer but it also enjoys a broad appeal that few can match.”

And he readily praised the Sunderland factory’s production standards: “The quality of the build and materials used sets it well ahead of the field,” he said. “Furthermore it has evolved beautifully with the addition of a seven seater model that should prove a real winner with many families.”

Qashqai has already shaken up the market, proving immensely popular with over 250,000 units sold across Europe since its launch in March 2007. Combining even more practicality and the same fun-to-drive attitude within an attractive design, the larger Qashqai+2 looks set to do exactly the same.

“The ASMW have made an impeccable choice,” said Paul Willcox, Managing Director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd. “This very welcome award is the first for Qashqai+2 and endorses our decision to build on the successful formula of the five-seater Qashqai with a model offering even greater space and flexibility without compromising the features that have made it so popular.

“We are already seeing an extremely positive response to the Qashqai+2 among customers who would not otherwise have considered the titleer model.”

The Qashqai+2 is longer and taller than Qashqai and can accommodate seven passengers thanks to a third row of seats which can be folded flat when not in use. There is a choice of three trim levels, 2.0-litre petrol (manual or CVT) or diesel (manual or automatic) engines and either two or four-wheel drive. All models are equipped with a panoramic roof, rear privacy glass, roof bars and ESP.
