Skoda Yeti : China Bound at last?

Skoda YETI - Test Drive in Norway

SHANGHAI : July 22, 2009 - The Skoda Yeti is quite possibly the funkiest SUV ever designed in the history of SUV making. It’s small, its not big, it has lots of room, the concept even had a stowaway bike rack in the rear bumper. What more could a family want in a small compact SUV?

The Yeti is rumoured to be China bound, ahead of the VW Tiguan which is expected to be made in China at the end of the year. The compact SUV market has performed very well in China this year with the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tuscon and Kia Sportage all together amassing sales of over 74,000 vehicles from January to April alone. The Yeti could be built in China before the end of the year, and will join its compact SUV brothers in the fight for consumers in the worlds hottest market, the Yeti is expecte d to be launched in the UK later this year.

The Skoda brand was introduced into China in late 2007, and has seen its brand grow extremely well. Skoda was previously in China in the late 90’s, but was reintroduced under VW management only a few years ago. Skoda has so far launched the Octavia sedan, Fabia hatch, and will soon launch the Skoda Superb in China.
