Daihatsu to Exhibit the e:S, Tanto Exe and other vehicles at Tokyo Motor Show

Daihatsu e:S

TOKYO : October 7, 2009 - DAIHATSU MOTOR CO., LTD. (Daihatsu) plans to exhibit six concept cars of four different vehicle series and nine production vehicles along with new technologies at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show to be held from October 24 to November 4 at the International Convention Complex (Makuhari Messe) in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture.

The Daihatsu Group slogan "Innovation for Tomorrow" will serve as the overall theme, while each exhibit will express the keywords for mini vehicles: eco, lifestyles, and fun.

Of the vehicles that will be on display, the e:S focuses earnestly on the impact that automobiles have on the environment and embodies the roles that mini vehicles should play. In order to maximize the underlying superior environmental performance of mini vehicles, the e:S successfully achieves high fuel efficiency of 30km/liter* through state-of-the-art improvements to existing technologies.

The Tanto Exe, based on the Tanto, which continues to enjoy strong sales, features a lighter body and higher fuel efficiency, as well as superior styling, a luxurious feel and a high level of comfort. It was developed with an expansive interior for use by a diverse range of drivers in a wide range of situations. Daihatsu plans a market release for the Tanto Exe in the future.

The Deca Deca was designed with leisure use in mind and maximizes utility, while the "basket" supports a slow pace of life in close contact with nature. Both models propose new possibilities for mini vehicles.

Concept vehicle

1. e:S (eco & smart) : A new eco-car that reveals the future role of mini vehicles
  • The e:S is based on a current platform with the wheelbase shortened to 2,175mm. Although it has compact exterior dimensions, the package can accommodate four adult passengers.
  • In addition to a compact body, the use of slim, lightweight seats and the replacement of many materials with lighter versions limits total vehicle weight to 700kg.
  • The e:S is equipped with a conventional mini vehicle engine fitted with a combustion control system developed by Daihatsu and an EGR, as well as an Idling Stop System.
  • The high environmental performance of mini vehicles is maximized by combining existing technologies to achieve fuel efficiency of 30km/liter* without the use of an electric motor or other systems.
* Fuel efficiency under the 10-15 Japanese test cycle; measurements made by Daihatsu.

Daihatsu Tanto Exe

2. Tanto Exe & Tanto Exe Custom (planned production vehicles) : The Tanto Exe and the Tanto Exe Custom were developed as lighter and more fuel efficient versions of the Tanto, which features an expansive interior.

Daihatsu Tanto Exe Custom

They are compact models that offer superior styling, a luxurious feel and high levels of comfort for use by a diverse range of drivers in a wide variety of situations.
  • Like the Tanto, both vehicles feature expansive interiors at the top levels in their classes.*
  • The high-quality seats and sophisticated interiors allow adults to enjoy the pleasure of driving.
  • The exteriors express both quality and vitality.
  • The Tanto Exe Custom offers a premium feel that further enhances the sense of quality.
* Vehicle length by width by height; as of October 2009; according to Daihatsu survey.

Daihatsu Deca Deca

3. Deca Deca : A "super box" that employs low, flat floor technology and features an expansive interior space that can be used in pursuing a range of various hobbies.
  • The low, flat floor and pillarless, side-by-side doors (135 degrees) provide superb ease of ingress and egress and loading and unloading.
  • The slim fold-away seats can be arranged in a variety of patterns to perform work inside the vehicle or stow large items.
  • The robust exterior features a well-defined three-dimensional form that expresses stability.
  • The modern interior emphasizes functionality.

Daihatsu Basket

4. basket : This slow pace of life open 4-seater model with a wide rear deck is designed for full enjoyment of life, such as for trips to the family vegetable plot out of the city.
  • The four-seat vehicle features a removable hardtop roof over the front seats and a removable canvas top over the rear seats.
  • The rear deck (located behind the rear seats) allows the transport of tools without having to worry whether they are clean or not.
  • The relaxing seats and interior feature a motif that evokes the feel of linen material.

Daihatsu offered great value with the Sirion+

2009 Daihasu Sirion 1.0 SE+

COLESHILL, UK : April 03, 2009 - What can you get, or where can you go for £10 these days? Two cinema tickets, and no popcorn? A short local train ride, late as usual? A lonely takeaway for one? A bottle of plonk from the supermarket? Not a great deal, in other words… unless you are lucky enough to buy into the funky, frugal Daihatsu Sirion range, where your £10 goes further.

In the fully-loaded, superb value Sirion SE+ 1.0, £10 gets you a long, long way… 165 miles to be precise, thanks to the innovative, free-revving, three-cylinder, twin-overhead camshaft, 12-valve 1.0-litre Daihatsu engine. Developed with Dynamic Variable Valve Timing (DVVT), the flexible, economical, low CO2 engine delivers performance way beyond its cubic capacity and raw figures suggest (although maximum power of 69.3 PS at 6,000 rpm is exceptionally high for its size, while the 69.3 lb ft torque is also impressive, especially at an accessible 3,600 rpm). Such engineering innovation offers a surprisingly wide spread of high-end power, combined with low-speed flexibility – making the Sirion the perfect city slicker and motorway cruiser alike, offering fabulous frugality, and fun.

Put simply, no rival can match the new Sirion 1.0-litre’s performance, fuel economy and low emissions. The top speed is a remarkable 99.4 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 13.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is an outstanding 46.3/64.2 and 56.5 mpg on the Urban/Extra Urban and Combined Cycles. Meanwhile, exceptionally low CO2 emissions of 118 g/km means the car qualifies for a Road Fund Licence charge of only £35 for 12 months, plus £50 first registration fee (B band up to 120 g/km). This places it in a category largely dominated by hybrids…

And the high-specification of the luxurious SE+, with its large Webasto electric sun-roof, rain-sensing and anti-trap features, front fog lamps, side protection mouldings, leather steering wheel and leather gear-knob for manual models – presents the perfect choice for belt-tightening motorists wishing to downsize, but not down-spec.

Priced from £8,320 on-the-road for the Sirion 1.0 S (£9,670 for the SE+, just £1,350 more), the entire range is extremely well-equipped with, for example, air-conditioning, ABS with EBD, driver, passenger and side airbags, radio/CD player, four electric windows and remote central-locking. These high interior standards are matched by a sharp chassis, with revised rear suspension, offering brilliant ride and handling, making each mile (and you get a lot of those for your money) a pleasure, not a chore.

As a further incentive in these financially-challenging times, all Daihatsus now come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, plus five years’ UK roadside recovery (the offer is not transferable and applies to all retail sales), while insurance for the 1.0-litre S and SE+ is very low, in group 4D. Frugality comes as standard.

Paul Hegarty, Operations Director, Daihatsu Vehicle Distributors Ltd, said: “In these challenging economic times, the 1.0 Sirion SE+ makes the ideal vehicle – prudent, quick, comfortable, high-spec and with fabulous road manners and handling. The Sirion is a great fun little city car, that likes to stretch its legs too. And, with environmental and economic issues being huge factors for us all, the incredibly low CO2 figures and high miles per gallon make the 1.0 Sirion S and SE+ the perfect 21st Century vehicle, for families and businesses alike. It’s the car all families and businesses should be looking at, offering class-leading economy, performance and emissions.”

Daihatsu - Company Car Of Choice

2009 Daihatsu Sirion

COLESHILL, UK : November 25, 2008 - Compact car specialist Daihatsu is combating the changes in tax rules that under the current regime penalise both employees and employers where thirsty, instead of environmentally-friendly vehicles, are provided.

As the Government shows no sign of deviating from their strategy, added to the uncertain fuel-costs and tighter budgets, this has left most companies in a quandary over alternative arrangements.

Daihatsu, which is behind the ‘National Cheaper Motor Campaign’, can add a fifth ingredient to the menu of its four key features – excellent fuel economy, low Road Fund Licences, five-year warranty and proven reliability – the added bonus of taxable benefit!

Cars producing CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less are subject to a taxable benefit of 10% of the list price under the Inland Revenue Company Car Scheme rules.

Daihatsu’s 1.0S and 1.0SE Sirion models produce just 118g/km, and with the 1.0S costing just £8,495 on the road, a basic rate tax payer opting for this car as their company vehicle will pay tax of just £14.16 per month or £169.90 per annum.

In addition, all Daihatsus now come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty plus five years’ UK roadside recovery. The offer is not transferable and applies to all retail sales.

Paul Hegarty, Operations Director, Daihatsu Vehicle Distributors Ltd said: “We are delighted that the Inland Revenue is finally giving recognition to motorists wishing to ease the burden not only on the environment, but also on their wallets. Daihatsu is a brand that is synonymous with reliable, low-polluting and economical compact cars. Despite the difficult economic climate, our cars really are perfectly tuned for these challenging times.”
