
Wolfsburg/Sao Bernardo do Campo : August 14, 2008 - Volkswagen do Brasil has just been ranked Best Company of the Year by IstoÉ Dinheiro in the fifth edition of the business magazine’s “Top 500 Companies in Brazil” awards. The ranking by Trevisan, one of the largest and most widely respected Brazilian consulting firms, is based on an analysis of data for 2007 submitted by the top Brazilian companies.
Divided into 30 economic sectors, companies are ranked according to five management criteria: financial performance, human resources, innovation and technology, social and environmental responsibility, and corporate governance. In addition to the top prize, VWB also ranked best in the automotive sector and was judged outstanding in management of human resources and management of innovation and technology.
"For Volkswagen do Brasil, the year 2007 represented a return to growth thanks to our efforts to make it once again a modern, competitive, innovative and increasingly sustainable company," said CEO Thomas Schmall.
In 2007, VWB reported growth of 31.3 percent in volume sales to 537,975 cars and light commercial vehicles, surpassing its main competitors and the industry as a whole. It also boasted the largest product mix, with a total of 17 models including imports as well as locally produced vehicles.
Published by Editora Três, IstoÉ Dinheiro is the second-ranking business, economics and finance publication in Brazil. It was launched in August 1997 and currently has a print run of 90,000 copies. It is distributed nationwide to a readership comprising mainly executives, entrepreneurs and freelance professionals.
