Scion reviving its portofolio with the new tC coupe

2009 SCION tC Coupe

Scion, after having a promising start back in 2004, is currently facing a downturn in sales with 12.5 percent sales decrease last year with only 113,900 vehicles sold compared with 2007. The prospect is not encouraging with forecasts saying that the sales decrease will continue in this current year.

The blame is placed at the doorsteps of a weakened market, although the insignificant changes in the main variants, the redesigned xB and xD compared to the entry level xB and xA, and the mild changes the tC coupe has received, may also account for the dwindling interest. The company is currently attempting to revive its portfolio and increase sales by the introduction of its latest tC coupe which is set to be available within two years or so and which will be followed by a totally new model close at its heels. The unveiling of the Hako Concept last year at the New York Auto Show may be the design direction the new model will be headed towards. Scion believes that there is still a lot of possibilities for a second coupe, more room for a larger sedan and smaller vehicles and even a possibility for an open bed truck-based vehicle.
